Wilvin Chee is the Research Director with IDC's Asia/Pacific Software Research group, based in Hong Kong. In his role, Wilvin leads a team of analysts in the delivery of a range of software research programs with particular emphasis on enterprise applications, infrastructure software, and software tools market. He oversees the analysis on market structures and paradigms, trends and dynamics, customer perceptions and market readiness, key players and their competitiveness, critical market strategies, and market opportunities. Wilvin's management skills and IT infrastructure knowledge empowers him to recommend strategic business strategies for clients to gain a competitive advantage.

Prior to software research, Wilvin was previously responsible for driving research studies on new market concepts such as ASP, Internet Data Center, and e-logistic, in addition to project management of several large regional consulting projects that involved enterprise adoption, competitive analysis, and successful eBusiness strategies.

Wilvin has undertaken a wide range of Asia/Pacific consulting projects, some of which includes the Internet Data Center Adoption Study, 2000; Support Services Requirement Study, 2000; Enterprise Security Adoption Study, 2000-2001; Leading Vendors’ Competitive Analysis, 2000-2002; Top 10 Technology Adoption Study, 2002, and Opportunities in ISV Sector, 2003.

Wilvin regularly delivers insightful presentations on software market trends and dynamics at both key IDC and clients’ events. His views on the marketplace are regularly seen in IT-related publications, both at the regional and local levels, such as Bloomberg, FEER, South China Morning Post, WSJ, Business Week, Economic Digest, Forbes, ACW, Computer World, Intelligent Enterprise Asia, The Business Times (Singapore), The Straits Times (Singapore), and others.

Prior to joining IDC, Wilvin spent five years in a management role for both supply and demand market segments in the retail industry where his portfolio ranged from procurement to sales and marketing operations.

Wilvin holds an MBA from the University of Strathclyde, Scotland. His first degree was a Bachelor of Applied Science in Computer Engineering, from the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
