Claus Mortensen is a Director at IDC Asia/Pacific covering IDC's Emerging Technology Advisory Services program. Based in Hong Kong, he leads a team of analysts to analyze emerging technologies and trends in the region.
As a founding member of IDC’s Emerging Technologies Council, Claus’ main focus is to identify “The Next Big Thing” in the ICT space and to explore the impact of Cloud Computing, Web 2.0, and New Media in the Asian marketplace. He was previously the Research Manager of IDC's Asia/Pacific Telecommunications research program with more than eight years of experience in the area.
Claus is often quoted in regional and local publications and regularly appears on CNBC and Bloomberg TV. Prior to joining IDC, Claus had extensive telecommunications research experience working as an analyst for Informa Telecoms Group in London and subsequently in Hong Kong, where he covered mobile telecoms in Europe and Asia. He led various projects covering mobile data usage in Europe, mobile handset production, and reverse logistics in China and Mobile Number Portability around the world.
Before becoming a Telecoms Analyst, Claus was a Legal Officer with the Danish telecoms regulator where he was in charge of the Danish public tenders for two TETRA radio networks and consulted on 2G and 3G tenders and auctions. He was also involved in the Danish and European Union regulatory reforms, representing Denmark in European Union and ITU meetings.
Claus holds a Masters in Law from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark.
