Godfrey Chua is a research manager for IDC's Wireless and Mobile Infrastructure service. In this role, Mr. Chua provides his expert insight and analysis on a wide range of continually evolving infrastructure products and solutions that support advanced wireless voice and data services in both enterprise and wide area network environments. He examines the opportunities and threats impacting the market and provides actionable advice and opinions on how to reach overall business growth objectives.

Prior to joining IDC, Mr. Chua was a Principal Analyst at Emerging Energy Research. He was responsible for overseeing research in the global emerging energy sector, with a specialization in wind power. As part of his role, Mr. Chua tracked technology, regulatory and market developments - analyzing their implications for industry participants and developing a vision of the future of this fast growing industry.

Before Emerging Energy, Mr. Chua was Director of the Asia Pacific operations of Pyramid Research, formerly a part of the Economist Group of Companies. He managed a team of researchers throughout the region, served as a key contact for clients and supported business development. In addition, he conducted in-depth analysis of the Asian communications technology sector, examining issues such as the critical role of wireless technology in the region and the prospects for fixed line broadband access. Mr. Chua covered a variety of countries, from well developed markets such as Singapore and Hong Kong to the more chaotic but dynamic markets such as China, India, and the Philippines. He was based in Singapore and Cambridge, MA during his tenure.

Mr. Chua was also a research assistant at the Center for Regional Economic Issues in Cleveland, OH, where he was involved in efforts examining the Northeast Ohio regional economy and the automotive industry. In particular, he participated in a global study of supplier relation models in the automobile sector and the impact these had on innovation and quality. This research was done in conjunction with the International Motor Vehicle Program at MIT and similar centers based in London and Japan. Other research areas included technology innovation, education and urban renewal.

Mr. Chua has presented at and chaired numerous fora devoted to the technology and infrastructure industries, working with organizations such as the Economist Conferences in Hong Kong and London. He has also appeared as an expert commentator on technology change on television in both Hong Kong and Singapore, for networks such as CNN Asia and local news stations. He is regularly quoted in the trade media, the most recent of which include the Wall Street Journal and the Christian Science Monitor.
