Chris Morris is Director of IDCs Asia/Pacific Services Research, based in Sydney.
He joined IDC in November 2007 and works within the regional Services team. He addresses all areas of IT and business services, but focuses on data centre transformation services, service management and Green IT solutions. Recent engagements include:
- Speaking engagement for IBM Tivoli group on the topic of Business Service Management.
- Research project on adaptation of data centre services to support new technology innovations, especially around consolidation and virtualization of servers and storage and IT process automation. This was developed through collaboration with the regional Server Research team.
- Research project on Supply Chain Optimization for Carbon Footprint
Regional Green IT surveys.
Chris has a long history working in the ICT research market of Asia/Pacific. He joined Gartner in 1992 as the first research analyst in the region, working as the regional member of the worldwide Large Computer Strategies team. He continued working within the data centre research areas of servers and storage, and also led Gartners regional Y2K research program. He chaired Gartners annual Symposium event in 1999 and 2000. Chris left Gartner at the end of 2001 when he was the Group Vice President and Director of Research for the Asia/Pacific region, the Principal Analyst for the region and responsible for the overall direction of the research carried out by 55 analysts in five research groups across all regional geographies.
Since 2002, Chris has worked as an independent IT industry researcher and consultant. During this period, he was engaged by public and private sector customer organisations to manage product and services acquisition projects, and as well as vendor organisations to conduct market and competitive analyses.
Before Gartner, he worked for a number of technology vendors including Fujitsu/Amdahl, Hitachi Data Systems and Memorex Telex in a variety of technical, product marketing and management roles.
Chris holds a BE from UNSW.
