Research Manager, Worldwide Smart Grid Strategies
Marcus Torchia researches and analyzes global regional markets on utility grid modernization, project investment and business transformation. Leveraging 19 years experience in business and technology roles, Torchia advises utility business and IT decision makers and planners of smart grid strategies, operational business processes and applied technology and R&D.
Torchia joined IDC Energy Insights in 2008. Prior, he worked for Yankee Group establishing the firm’s research practice on machine-to-machine (M2M) and Internet of Things (IoT) domains in its wireless enterprise business unit. Before Yankee Group, Torchia worked for Nokia Ventures Organization, responsible for R&D based venturing activities for the U.S. based offices. His past responsibilities include software and hardware technology development and product management in the communication network industry.
Torchia earned an M.B.A. degree from Babson College, Olin School of Business, and is a former Peace Corps Volunteer teaching in Belize, Central America.As a research manager focused on smart grid strategies, Marcus Torchia applies 13 years of technology industry experience by helping utility end-users, technology vendors, and service providers optimize technology and business planning decisions for smart grid initiatives. He brings to his role experience in industry research and analysis, device and software product development, billing plan structures, market entry programs and strategic partnerships.
