Phil Hochmuth is the Program Manager of IDCs Security Products service. In this role, he conducts primary research and provides insight and analysis on a range of enterprise security markets, including Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Information Protection and Control (IPC), Messaging Security and Web Security. His research also examines the convergence of these, and other, security technologies as enterprises address new and evolving data security challenges.
Prior to joining IDC, Mr. Hochmuth was a Principal Analyst at Yankee Group, where his research covered a range of enterprise network and security technologies, including network infrastructure, data security, remote access, mobile security, server virtualization security and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI). He also advised Yankee Groups telco and service provider clients on cloud computing, security and WAN services strategies. Before Yankee Group, Mr. Hochmuth was a Senior Editor at Network World, where he covered network infrastructure, IP telephony, Linux and open source and security. Before that, Mr. Hochmuth was a systems engineer at CNI Corp., a technology integration firm, where he installed and supported PC/server networks and prepress workflow systems for clients in the newspaper and publishing industries.
As an analyst, Mr. Hochmuth has contributed writing to many publications and industry groups, such as Forbes.com and The CIO Forum. His comments have also appeared in articles and broadcasts by various news outlets and trade journals, including The Wall Street Journals SmartMoney, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Toronto Globe and Mail, WBZ-TV Boston, CNN.com, Network World, Computer World, CIO, CNET, CIO Talk Radio and Information Week.
Mr. Hochmuth holds a B.A. degree in journalism from Northeastern University.
