Senior Research Manager, Telecoms & Unified Communications, IDC Asia/Pacific
Ryan Tay is a Senior Research Manager for IDC’s Asia/Pacific Communications Group, based in Singapore. He is responsible for primary analysis and report writing, covering market and competitive analysis, technology trends and predictions, user demands and preferences, business models & practices in the Telecommunications industry across the Asia Pacific region. In addition, he collaborates with the Consulting team on telecommunications specific projects regionally and globally and assists on prospect development, including lead generation, project definition and pricing.
Ryan leads the IDC APJ semiannual UC&C and Enterprise Videoconferencing tracker, which covers 14 countries, split into various verticals and company sizes. The tracker includes revenue and shipment trends in IP PBXs, IP phones, emails, telepresence equipment, collaborative applications, conferencing and contact centers applications.
In addition, Ryan’s knowledge includes tariff trends of Telecom services such as local leased lines, international leased lines, broadband and mobile roaming across major Asia/Pacific countries. He manages IDC’s Next Generation Network (NGN) service program, which focuses on IP-based services such as IP VPN, VoIP and IPTV and national broadband initiatives. He is well-informed about enterprises’ needs and preferences on telecom services, expectations and ICT budget through an annual Telecom and WAN survey.
Prior to joining IDC, Ryan was a market research MBA intern with GE Healthcare. He focused on market sizing and growth analysis, competitive pricing analysis and industry mapping. Before that, Ryan was a Senior Engineer with Fujikura Ltd, based in Japan focusing on R&D in the Telecommunications and Applied Optics Industries. His responsibilities included product development, commercialization and project management.
Ryan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Honors) and an MBA from Nanyang Technological University of Singapore. He also holds an MBA (Technology Management) from Waseda University of Japan.
