As senior market analyst for Computing Systems Research at IDC China, James Yan is responsible for overall research on the China Mobile Phone market. His duties include market analysis and research, which include writing studies, conducting independent research, making presentations to clients and addressing further inquiries they may have. James is also in charge of consulting projects and business development for his program. James is in charge of IDC's China Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker and China Quarterly Provincial Mobile Phone Tracker.

Before joining IDC, James has worked in the market research industry for over seven years. He had previously worked for Telling Communications Group, with which he was the team leader responsible for market research and product analysis. This role provided him with a rich experience and in-depth study of mobile phone hardware, mobile phone OS, mobile operators, mobile phone distributors, and mobile phone application providers. He also worked for CTR Market Research, where he did research and analysis for a number of renowned enterprises/institutions involving FMCG, media advertising, IT, and home appliance. In this role, he applied a variety of authoritative market research models, and accumulated a great deal of experience in custom research.

James graduated from Beijing University of Chemical Technology, and acquired a Senior Researcher certificate sponsored by CMRA and a Senior Research Analyst certificate awarded by the Bureau of Statistics.
