Research Director, Software & Services
Sally Parker is Research Director for IDC’s Software and Services Research Groups, based out of Melbourne, Australia. Her team is responsible for tracking the software and services markets, for providing thought leadership content and advisory expertise on emerging technology trends, ICT consumer preferences, and competitive analysis to IDC research teams and IDC clients in the region. In this role she has a personal focus on Cloud and Big Data.
Sally brings over 20 years of ICT industry experience to IDC, leveraging a solid technical background, years of end customer facing heritage, and experience in collaborating with a broad spectrum of end customers, vendors and analyst firms across Asia, Europe and the USA on Enterprise IT related topics including Servers& Operating Systems, Workload & Resource Management, High Availability& Business Continuity, Virtualization, Open Source and Cloud. Augmenting this practical experience with more recent IT analyst experience, she is known for providing clients with insights on emerging trends and technologies impacting the Data Centre and for providing practical guidance on navigating the challenges and opportunities they present. A frequent presenter at international forums she has consulted on cross continent legal cases, advised on strategic acquisitions, and authored papers.
Previously she worked for technology vendors including Red Hat USA, VMware ANZ and HP EMEA & USA in technical, product marketing and global strategy roles with a recent focus on Emerging Markets, SMB markets, CIO/CMO relationships and the evolving alliance landscape. She has a healthy personal interest in Cloud strategies; the role of 3rd party data centers, mobility, big data and social media derived consumer intelligence.
Sally holds a Bachelor of Science honours degree in Computer Science and French and completed post grad studies in Strategic Marketing at Stanford.
