ASEAN Research Director, Consulting, IDC Malaysia
Katherine Chan is a Research Director managing and leading IDC’s Consulting/Custom research business in the ASEAN region. Based in Kuala Lumpur she leads the ASEAN Consulting and Custom Research Group responsible for managing and executing consulting projects, business development, identifying and developing new practice areas in the ASEAN region.
Katherine has over 10 years of experience in market research and business advisory across different industries ranging from Banking, FMCG, Telco and IT. Katherine started her career in market research at IDC where she was a Research Manager tracking the IT services sector and the Printers & Peripherals sector plus working on custom research projects in Malaysia.
In her time working outside of IDC, Katherine focused on buyer-side research and insights --formulating key brand value propositions and trade go-to-market strategies for the marketing and trade departments. Some of her key research areas included brand metrics and retail performance tracking, social media and digital metrics tracking, customer segmentation studies, consumer behavior studies, customer/channel satisfaction measurement, net promoter scores and concept testing. Katherine also has experience in managing an analytics team as well as designing and formulating tracking reports and tools on a real-time basis to assist active selling strategies. During her tenure in the telecommunication industry, she was also responsible for retail and enterprise sales target planning, dealer incentive structure design and trade budgeting.
Katherine graduated from the Malaysia University of Science and Technology (in collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA) with a M.Sc. in Transportation and Logistics. She was also a graduate from Help University holding a degree in Economics and Management with the University of London.
