This IDC study presents the results of IDC's 2015 European Software Survey relating to software license management. The survey asked 1,451 IT decision makers and influencers from small, midsize, and large enterprises about their IT and business priorities, spending plans, and software procurement processes for 2015. It also examined their plans and attitudes regarding a number of software trends, including cloud computing, mobile devices, Big Data, IT security, and social software in the enterprise. This study specifically looks at software licensing challenges, preferences, and processes and compares them with the 2013 survey. It also provides actionable advice for IT vendors and buyers.
"IDC's annual software survey revealed that European IT decision makers are struggling with software license management, and their challenges have increased significantly compared with 2013. Mainstream adoption of virtualized infrastructures and cloud services, as well as bring-your-own approaches have complicated software license management," said Carla Arend, program director, IDC European Storage and Cloud. "In addition, software vendors have discovered software license compliance audits as a profitable revenue stream, much to their customers' frustration."
