This IDC study reflects the growth of mobility among enterprises as well as the enrichment of vendor offerings to target the variety of application developer needs. Success in the enterprise MADP market will require vendors to devote a healthy balance of investment between front-end and back-end application development tools and services. Vendors that thrive will have an appropriate breadth of MADP functionality targeting third-party developers as well as the enterprise IT buyers themselves. Successful vendors will need to be able to monetize third-party developer adoption, driving the developer market upward through tiers of subscription.
"Enterprises need to deploy mobile applications for employees, business partners, and consumers more quickly and cost effectively," says Denise Lund, research director for IDC's Enterprise Mobility research practice. "Today, enterprise mobile application development platforms target market needs quite well, particularly as MBaaS and model-driven tools garner further product development investment. The challenge for vendors in this market will be to differentiate their platform offerings."
