This IDC study is an update of the worldwide telecom market forecast for 1H15. IDC estimates show a downgraded market size and projection over the next five years. This is primarily due to revised mobile revenue market estimates for both mobile voice and mobile data services. IDC is projecting overall growth of 1.4% from $1.47 trillion in 2014 to $1.49 trillion in 2015, which is a slight uptick and flat growth of 1.5% of over the remaining forecast period.
"The worldwide telecommunications market will face challenging economic conditions and tough competitive markets over the next five years," according to Courtney Munroe, GVP, Worldwide Telecommunications Research, IDC. "To take advantage of growth opportunities, CSPs will have to focus on rapidly implementing new digital platforms and structures while revamping their go-to-market strategies."
