Abstract

This IDC study looks at the adoption of generative AI technology in the structured database industry and its impact on the market and users. It includes six vendor examples of this technology adoption and offers advice for both vendors and users in this area.

"The promise of generative AI combined with well-managed structured data environments is that of nontechnical users have free direct access to a broad range of data once only accessible by data professionals," says Carl Olofson, research vice president for Data Management Software Research at IDC. "The true power of this new technology has yet to be fully realized, but in order to get there in a way that is uniformly safe and productive, planning and effort, including building taxonomies and data definitions, must be done."
