Abstract
This IDC Innovators study profiles foundation model operations (FMOps) software vendors providing tools, processes, and best practices to automate and operationalize the generative AI life cycle. FMOps capabilities include testing, evaluating, tracking, and comparing foundation models; adapting and tuning them with new data; developing custom derivative models; debugging and optimizing performance; and deploying and monitoring foundation model–based applications in production. The FMOps market is fragmented, with many new entrants joining established vendors to support specific capabilities within the life cycle.
"As enterprises shift from experimentation with generative AI to production applications, they must incorporate new tools for operationalizing the unique steps within the GenAI life cycle," says Kathy Lange, research director for AI Software at IDC. "Similar to traditional predictive and interpretive AI, generative AI models drive real value for organizations.
