Abstract

This IDC Tech Buyer Presentation is focused on the analysis of 800+ engineering-oriented value chain (EOVC) manufacturers with analysis showing that due to challenges at complex discrete organizations such as automotive and A&D (aerospace and defense), it is imperative to invest in digital technology and efforts. Companies that have made this investment, according to our analysis, are more profitable and can result in long-term financial gains.

In 1H23, IDC's Insights team conducted an analysis of the financial information (revenue and profit details) for the top 5,000 manufacturing organizations (over $250 million global revenue) from 2016 to 2021.

Recently, we further cut this data by manufacturing industry value chain — EOVC (engineering-oriented value chain), TOVC (technology-oriented value chain), BOVC (brand-oriented value chain), and AOVC (asset-oriented value chain) to dive deeper into understanding value chain–specific nuances across three specific parameters: digital initiatives, ICT spend, and third-party spend contributions.
