This IDC Energy Insights study analyzes the results of the annual IDC Energy Insights Survey carried out between August and October 2014. The survey focused on 35 interviews with representatives from the oil and gas (O&G) industry in Western Europe. This study aims to understand how O&G enterprises allocate and evolve their IT budgets as well as how they select their primary IT suppliers and how satisfied they are with them. It also analyzes enterprise and line-of-business (LOB) solution investment plans in the near future and the readiness of O&G firms to leverage the four pillars of the 3rd Platform (i.e., mobility, Big Data/analytics, social media, and cloud).
"Western European oil and gas companies continue to strive to improve their operational and financial efficiencies. To this end, survey results indicate that over the past 12 months, companies have succeeded in reducing their IT spending for compliance/maintain/run/ activities, effectively freeing up IT spending for more innovation activities," said Gaia Gallotti, research manager, IDC Energy Insights.
