Predictive Technologies Set to Take Center Stage as IDC Announces Latest Installment of IT Security Roadshow
14 Jan 2014
With CIO concerns around security threats growing by the day, IDC today announces the fourth installment of its IT Security Roadshow, which will take place in 11 cities across the Middle East, Africa, and Turkey during the first half of 2014. Bringing senior IDC analysts, expert thought leaders, prominent CIOs, and leading security vendors together under one roof, the roadshow will focus on predictive security as a key topic, while discussions will also take place on pressing issues such as cyberwarfare, hacktivism, next-generation firewalls, managed security services, digital forensics, Web fraud management, and physical security.
IDC's recently released 'Middle East Top 10 ICT Predictions, 2014' highlighted a visible increase in focus from governments on IT security matters, with many looking to strengthen their national ICT security policies. Meanwhile, organizations in several other key verticals, including finance and energy, will join the region's governments in increasing their levels of security spending over the coming years as the IT landscape of the Middle East, Africa, and Turkey continues to evolve.
The last two years have seen organizations in the region become increasingly vulnerable to advanced persistent threats and so-called 'hacktivism', making investments in IT security solutions more critical than ever before. Indeed, a recent IDC survey of Middle East CIOs showed that 43% of them view the need to maintain security as one of the biggest challenges they currently face. The region's CIOs realize that to sustain and protect their infrastructures they need to consider adopting not just a proactive strategy for remaining ahead of threats, but a predictive one as well. Consequently, security policies need to be redefined, and risk-monitoring solutions will play a significant role in the evolution of IT security infrastructure deployments.
"The region has seen a considerable increase in instances of advanced persistent threats over the past two years," says Megha Kumar, research manager for software at Middle East, Africa, and Turkey. "As the use of the hacktivsim for political and economic gain has risen significantly over recent years, organizations in the oil and gas, finance, telecommunications, and government sectors have increased their investments in IT security solutions accordingly. There has been a notable rise in IT security budgets for the year ahead, while spending on governance for data protection and privacy purposes has surged. In the Gulf region, meanwhile, the emphasis on physical security has risen with the UAE and Qatar mandating CCTV installation in public areas."
IDC's IT Security Roadshow 2014 will feature a compelling mix of insightful presentations, real-life case studies, and interactive panel discussions on global best practices, next-generation IT security trends, and the major challenges and opportunities posed by both. The aim of the roadshow is to bring vendors and ICT decision makers together by providing a unique opportunity to develop mindshare with an audience that is responsible for driving IT security investment in the region. IT leaders will be attendance from across the whole vertical spectrum, including banking and finance, telecommunications, government, oil and gas, healthcare, manufacturing, and many more.
