TAV Airports Holding IT Chief Named as IDC's 'CIO of the Year' in Turkey
05 May 2015
International Data Corporation (IDC) is delighted to announce that Ms. Binnur Güleryüz Onaran, CIO of TAV Airports Holding and General Manager of TAV Information Technologies (IT), was named as Turkiye's 'CIO of the Year' at the recently hosted sixth annual Turkiye CIO Summit in Antalya. The award was recognition for her invaluable contribution to the success of the Madinah Airport IT and Aviation Systems Project in Saudi Arabia, a project that spanned two years and involved the management of all IT infrastructure, including the complete design, installation, and opening of the airport.
Of particular interest to IDC's voting committee was the successful implementation of TAV IT's SLOT and CAFI products at the airport, where more than ten aviation systems created and developed by TAV IT engineers are now utilized. CAFI automatically defines the names of aircraft within the relevant airspace and transfers this information to the appropriate airport, while TAV IT's SLOT solution will help ease seasonal congestion at Madinah Airport, particularly during the Hajj period. Consequently, TAV IT also received accolades for 'Best Change Management Project' and 'Best IT Governance Project'.
"Everyone at TAV Information Technologies is deeply honored by the recognition we have received for our efforts in making the Madinah Airport IT and Aviation Systems Project a huge success, and these awards hold significant meaning for us because they were given by IDC, one of the most respected companies in the global ICT industry," says Ms. Onaran. "The project was particularly challenging as we not only provided technical infrastructure services but also managed the entire operation. This meant we were tasked with motivating and coordinating the project team and overcoming a range of geographical, cultural, and personal differences to ensure the project ran as smoothly as possible."
"The roles being performed by CIOs across the region are undergoing considerable change as they acquire new skills, embrace emerging technologies, and take on broader leadership responsibilities," says Nevin Cizmeciogullari, country manager at IDC Turkiye. "Recognizing the leaders who are successfully navigating this highly fluid paradigm and emerging as successful early adopters not only encourages others to push the envelope but also serves as a model for emulation. It is particularly satisfying that we have been able to name a woman as our latest 'CIO of the Year', as this helps reinforce the critical role that women now play in the ICT industry, not just here in Turkiye but across the wider Middle East region. I once again congratulate Ms. Onaran and her team on their considerable achievements with the Madinah Airport IT and Aviation Systems Project."
