IDC Announces Expansion Plans for North and Francophone Africa
08 Sep 2015
With ICT spending in North Africa set to cross the $30 billion mark by 2019*, International Data Corporation (IDC) today announced a raft of expansion initiatives aimed at broadening its coverage of this hugely significant emerging market. The global advisory services firm has renewed its commitment to offering high-quality ICT research, consulting, and events to its customers across the region, combining its global expertise with a proven ability to directly address the unique demands of the local market.
To this end, IDC has already invested in additional analysts to expand its research coverage of high-growth markets throughout the region. "Our hardware and consulting teams based on the ground in North Africa have both seen recent additions to their headcounts as we ratchet up our efforts to cover more countries and more technologies than ever before," says Jyoti Lalchandani, group vice president and regional managing director at IDC Middle East, Africa, and Turkey. "The most immediate consequence of this will be the launch of a comprehensive new suite of research into the mobile phone markets of Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria, while we will also be expanding our tablet research into the latter two of those countries."
Leading this charge will be IDC's newly appointed regional manager for the North and Francophone Africa markets, Mr. Mohamed Zizi, who has been tasked with managing IDC's operations across the entire region. Based out of IDC's Casablanca office, Zizi's first priority will be to enhance the firm's relationships with the region's burgeoning community of ICT vendors, industry partners, and CIOs, and Lalchandani is confident that Zizi's extensive experience positions him perfectly to pursue the aggressive growth path IDC has planned for the region.
"Mohamed joins us from HP and brings more than 20 years of ICT industry experience to the table," says Lalchandani. "He has a proven track record of generating revenue streams across numerous territories, including Kenya, Ghana, Libya, and his native Morocco, and his vertical-specific expertise spans software, telecommunications, and banking, to name just a few. Appointing a candidate with a comprehensive mix of channel, vendor, and end-user experience was a key requirement, and in Mohamed we have found all these qualities and more."
IDC's events business is also gearing up to facilitate a new era of collaboration within the region's ICT community, with the 'Cloud, Datacenter, and Security Roadshow' set for another tour of North and Francophone Africa from October onwards and the 'IDC IT in Government Roadshow' scheduled to stop in Rabat in December. A host of new initiatives are also in the pipeline for next year's installment of the 'Francophone CIO Summit' as IDC looks to build on the huge success enjoyed in April this year, when more than 290 senior IT executives gathered at the Mazagan Beach Resort in Morocco. Attendees at the 2016 edition can expect to enjoy numerous new vertical-specific tracks and sessions targeting different CXOs, as well as a dedicated focus on the success of women in IT and a considerable increase in the amount of time set aside for networking.
And in a bid to enhance the perception of CIOs as true partners in innovation, IDC will also soon be rolling out its IT Executive Program across North and Francophone Africa. Designed to equip IT leaders with a deep understanding of how new ideas are developed and promoted within other lines of business, IDC's IT Executive Program features a compelling mix of research and advisory services that ultimately help enterprises to mitigate risks, maximize the effectiveness of their IT investments, identify new opportunities, and bring forth innovative solutions that are well aligned with overarching business objectives. Further announcements will follow when this exciting new initiative is up and running.
* IDC forecasts ICT spending in Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Mauritania, Sudan, Libya, and Tunisia to total a combined $30.1 billion in 2019.
