IDC Asia/Pacific Opens Nominations for the 2017 Smart City Asia Pacific Awards
21 Mar 2017
SINGAPORE, March 22nd, 2017 – IDC Government Insights Asia Pacific announced today that this year’s search for the top smart city initiatives across Asia Pacific excluding Japan (APeJ) is underway. Dubbed as IDC’s Smart City Asia Pacific Awards (SCAPA), which is now on its third year, is looking for the next best smart city initiatives that will join the other 28 projects awarded by IDC in the past two years. The SCAPA is IDC Asia/Pacific’s way of recognizing deserving government agencies, private or public organizations that IDC deemed to have stood above other projects or initiatives in 14 Smart City functional eService categories using IDC’s Smart City Development Index framework.
This framework is a rigorous six-step process that involves input from various stakeholders – from the public, IDC Analyst assessment and the International Advisory Council and will be used to determine this year’s winners. The process kicks off with open nomination to give the public sector, solution providers and the public the opportunity to nominate the Smart City projects that have made the most impact on their citizen experience.

"The Smart City Asia Pacific Awards (SCAPA) was created to identify, benchmark and publicly vote on the best projects each year across 14 functional smart city strategic domains. This is an intensive six-month process that tracks and evaluates hundreds of smart city initiatives in Asia Pacific," states Gerald Wang, Head, Asia Pacific Government, IDC Government Insights. "For the last few years, IDC's trademarked and custom framework has helped numerous AP city leaders understand and transform their smart city strategies and create innovative eServices. Awarded projects are winners that have withstood the true testament of rigorous global benchmarking and public scrutiny," states Gerald Wang, Head, Asia Pacific Government, IDC Government Insights.
The award categories are Transportation; Public Works; Smart Buildings; Smart Grid; Smart Water; Administration; Economic Development; Land Use and Environmental Management; Permitting, Licensing, Inspection and Zoning; Public Safety; Education; Tourism, Arts, Libraries, Culture, Open Spaces; Connected Health; and Social Services.
