04 Nov 2013
Prague, November 4, 2013 - The Slovak PC market contracted 28.8% in unit terms year on year in the second quarter of 2013. Vendors delivered almost 53,000 computers, with notebooks making up only 53.3% of all sales - the smallest share since 2007. The decline hit both the desktop and the notebook markets as sales of the latter plunged as much as 39.9%. Both markets recorded a decline for the fourth quarter in a row.
The key factors of decline:
- Excessive inventory from the preceding period in the channel inhibited further replenishment
- Cautious adoption of Windows 8 by consumers (insufficent communication of grand changes)
- The mini-notebook nearing its end: one year ago it represented 11.3% of notebooks, but its share shrank to 3.2% in Q2
- Growth in the tablet market
HP shipped the most computers of all vendors, continuing its two-year domination of the Slovak PC market. The company also remains number one in desktops over the long term. Lenovo finished second as it leapt into top spot in the notebook makret for the first time, while Acer finished third.
