IDC Forecasts Japan Public IT Cloud Services Spending to Reach 300 Billion Yen by 2017
27 Sep 2013
TOKYO, September 27, 2013 - International Data Corporation (IDC) recently published a study that finds the Japan public IT cloud services market to have grown 45% year over year to 90 billion yen in 2012. IDC forecasts the Japan public IT cloud services market to continue to grow, achieving an average annual growth rate of 28% from 2012 to 2017 and a market size exceeding 300 billion yen in 2017.
In the wake of the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake of March 2011, user companies have turned to public IT cloud services as a way to build more robust systems better able to cope with failure. Since 2012, there has also been a greater understanding among user companies of the advanced functions offered by public IT cloud services. Among these functions are support for mobile devices and linkage with social networks in front office applications, and automated backup and log management in infrastructure services. User companies broadly perceive public IT cloud services to be not merely "fast," "cheap," and "extensible," but to also be effective IT solutions for "disaster recovery" and "introduction of advanced functions."
The Japan public IT cloud services market is growing sharply. One of the things that set this market apart is the increasing number of user companies that are going "Cloud First," giving priority to the introduction of cloud-based IT. Among the areas in which "Cloud First" has made the biggest headway are collaborative and CRM applications, disaster recovery, and large traffic Web systems.
Japan Public IT Cloud Services Spending Forecast, 2012 – 2017
The Japan public IT cloud services market no longer focuses just on the user IT efficiency achieved through vendor and technology-driven offerings. "The important thing is for user and solution-driven offerings to create solutions that encourage user innovation, particularly intelligent industry solutions," said Satoshi Matsumoto, research manager, IT Services, IDC Japan.
