IDC Announces 2015 China Leading Smart Cities – 20 Cities Receiving Recognition for Smart City Achievements
21 Oct 2015
Singapore, October 21, 2015 – IDC has announced today the winners of the 2015 China Leading Smart Cities Awards following the launch of the competition last July 2015. A total of 20 cities from Mainland China are being recognized for their exceptional achievements in smart city development.
IDC’s analysis found several characteristics and trends that were common in all 20 award-winning cities:
- Top-down design: formulating their smart city development plans based on city-level overall planning;
- Effectively leverage emerging technologies, especially third-platform technologies such as cloud computing, big data, mobile, and social media in smart city development;
- Resident-oriented, they focus on and give priority to meeting practical needs of local residents in everyday life;
- Narrow scope of specialization based on their city’s advantageous characteristics, making key deployments in one or more fields to build smart cities with a unique identity.
These characteristics provide valuable insight and learning experience for smart city developers of other cities in China and in the Asia Pacific region at large.
IDC Government Insights conducted the selection of the China Leading Smart Cities through a weighted analysis of both analyst evaluation and public votes. The analyst evaluation uses a three-tier evaluation system with corresponding indicators at each level. Conducted by IDC’s Senior Smart City Analysts, the evaluation includes three first-level indicators, 10 second-level indicators and 30 third-level indicators. The results of the analyst evaluations are then weighted and combined with results from online public votes to obtain the final scores and city rankings.
The winners of the 2015 Leading Smart Cities for China will be recognized at the 2015 Asia Pacific Leading Smart City and Vendor Awards Gala Dinner to be held at the 2015 Asia Pacific Smart City Development Forum on November 17, 2015 in Shenzhen, China.
