Ongoing Infrastructure Investments in Datacenters Fuels Growth of Turkish Enterprise Hardware Market, According to Latest Insights from IDC
30 Sep 2013
Istanbul, September 30, 2013 - The Turkish enterprise hardware market, comprising servers and storage solutions, recorded solid double-digit growth in the first half of 2013, according to International Data Corporation (IDC). Referencing its latest EMEA Quarterly Server and Disk Storage Systems Tracker, the leading global research and advisory firm today announced that the market grew 11.3% year on year in H1 2013 to total $166.2 million.
"Ongoing infrastructure developments and increased technology investments in the finance, telecommunications, and public sectors had a positive effect on the Turkish enterprise market, particularly in the second quarter of the year," says Asli Demir Kockal, a senior research analyst for systems and infrastructure solutions at IDC Turkey. "Additionally, emerging technology trends such as virtualization and cloud pushed end users to demand higher configuration server models, which led to an increase in the average unit prices of products on the market and contributed significantly to the growth in total revenue."
"However, the outlook for the rest of the year remains less clear," Kockal continues. "Our growth estimates are dependent on whether or not the numerous large projects currently underway are finalized before year end, and these, in turn, are at the mercy of political and economic developments in the country."
Turkey's x86 server market recorded flat unit growth of 0.5% year on year in H1 2013, but its revenue was up 8.6% over the same period. "This incongruity in the x86 server market can be attributed to the increasing adoption of virtualization technologies that utilize fewer server units in datacenters," says Kockal.
The country's external storage market experienced a strong year-on-year growth of 13.5% during the first half of 2013. "External storage projects that were postponed from the first three months of the year were delivered in the second quarter, transforming the overall outlook for the first half of the year into a positive one," says Kockal.
According to IDC's half-yearly results for the Turkish enterprise hardware markets in Turkey, HP ranked as the top vendor for servers with 44.1% market share, followed by IBM and Dell. EMC continued to lead the country's external storage market, recording 34.3% share of the total disk storage space, followed by IBM and Netapp.
