IDC's Integrated Infrastructure & Platform Tracker Provides a Critical and Timely View Into the Rapidly Changing Datacenter Infrastructure Market
29 Apr 2013
FRAMINGHAM, Mass., April 29, 2013 – International Data Corporation (IDC) today announced the launch of its Worldwide Quarterly Integrated Infrastructure & Platform Tracker. This Tracker will be the first of its kind to measure the consumption of pre-integrated, vendor-certified systems that tightly integrate server hardware, disk storage systems, networking equipment, and management software in a way that vastly improves the time and efforts required to deploy, provision, and manage datacenter infrastructure.
"More and more organizations are looking for datacenter infrastructure that is highly tuned to run specific applications optimally. More still are looking for infrastructure that is easier to deploy and manage," said Eric Sheppard, Research director, Storage Software. "Infrastructure suppliers have responded to this market need by offering pre-integrated, highly virtualized systems. Adoption of these integrated systems has been growing quickly and is likely to drive more than $3 billion in annual sales this year."
"Integrated systems will be one of the most important developments in the evolution of the enterprise datacenter," said Jed Scaramella, research manager, Servers. "Where the traditional infrastructure hardware markets are forecasted to grow at mid-single digits over the next five years; IDC expects integrated systems to increase at a CAGR of more than 50%. This emerging segment represents significant opportunity for technology vendors."
IDC intends to leverage its unparalleled global market presence to ensure the Worldwide Quarterly Integrated Infrastructure & Platform Tracker is created using input and analysis from IDC analysts based all around the world. No other organization can match IDC's globally distributed analyst community that will work together to ensure this product offers a robust dataset that accurately reflects the diverse, local needs of datacenters around the world.
A detailed set of research methodologies, definitions, and metrics used to measure this important and fast growing market can be found in IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Integrated Infrastructure and Platform Tracker Taxonomy, 2013.
The first Tracker deliverable will be available during the second quarter of 2013 and will cover all of calendar year 2012 as well as the first quarter of 2013.
IDC defines integrated infrastructure and platforms as pre-integrated, vendor-certified systems containing server hardware, disk storage systems, networking equipment, and basic element/systems management software. Systems not sold with all four of these components are not counted within this tracker. Specific to management software, IDC includes embedded or integrated management and control software optimized for the auto discovery, provisioning and pooling of physical and virtual compute, storage and networking resources shipped as part of the core, standard integrated system.
