This study also presents a five-year market forecast as well as the major trends in 2009. The Philippine telecommunications services market, which include both the fixed and mobile segment, continued on a positive growth track in 2009. During the year, the market grew 4% year over year (YoY), reaching US$3.9 billion. "As postcrisis opportunities emerge, with customers finally loosening their belts and pushing through with planned projects and purchases that had been shelved in the last two years, service providers (SPs) will strive to be creative in capturing these postcrisis opportunities, but a high level of support, on top of competitive pricing, could be a key differentiator," says Karen Rondon, research manager, IDC Philippines.

2009 U.S. WAN Manager Survey: Managed Network Services by Company Size and Industry Sector

This IDC presentation analyzes the results from the managed network services (MNS) section of IDC's 2009 U.S. WAN Manager Survey by company size and industry sector. The survey's MNS questions explore a number of issues, including MNS adoption, the factors encouraging or inhibiting usage of MNS, the types of network functions delivered, and service provider selection criteria. Key survey findings include the following: Very large companies (more than 5,000 employees) posted the highest level of current MNS usage. Sheer network size is a key factor: respondents in the very large category have an average of 78 WAN-connected corporate locations per organization Financial industry respondents' MNS adoption rate is also influenced by network size (43 WAN-connected locations per organization on average). Similar dynamics drive high MNS adoption among distribution (retail/wholesale) sector respondents MNC respondents' MNS adoption rate (46% currently, compared with 40% among U.S.-only respondents) is driven by larger WANs (51 locations on average vs. 20 for U.S.-only respondents) and more heterogeneous (i.e., multi-technology) networks

Thailand Communications Usage and Purchasing Behaviors by Vertical Industry, 2009

This IDC study identifies trends in communication usage, expenditure, and outsourcing across vertical industries in Thailand. We detail the: Evolving role network communications play today and in the future Major challenges utilities face in creating a smart network communications strategy Main network domain technology area including active competing companies Management risks of network complexity and how a network convergence strategy is essential for smart grid success. According to Marcus Torchia, research manager of Intelligent Grid Strategies, "Smart grid applications have a diversity of requirements that cannot be currently met in a one-size-fits-all communications network, in light of the utopian promises that it could one day happen. And since utilities do not have a crystal ball, they need to settle on strategies that allow for maximum adaptability of past and current technology investments to future requirements. In this approach, the benefits of a converged network emerges."

Indonesia Telecommunications Services 2010–2014 Forecast and Analysis

This IDC study examines the Indonesia telecommunications services market, including fixed-line and mobile services.
