I had a speaking opportunity a few years ago to a government group in Brasilia, the Capital of Brazil. The way my flight
was booked, I had to change planes in Manaus, a city known as “The Heart of the Amazon” that’s located
right in the middle of the rain forest. When I found out that I’d be passing through there, I immediately arranged
to take a couple of vacation days. So instead of changing planes immediately, I used the vacation time to book a boat trip
that went several miles up the Amazon river, and had one of the best sidetrips I’ve ever taken during a business trip.
That’s one of the nice things about working at IDC. We have to travel quite often, but flexible scheduling, generous vacation time, and the ability to leverage business travel in creative ways can make a trip more exciting and personally enjoyable.

IDC’s culture is entrepreneurial and results-oriented, in that you have services that you are responsible for building and delivering to. In a larger sense, IDC is a fun place to work, with a lot of peer and team support, and many corporate services, such as training, that ensure that you continue to grow in your career. I have been very impressed with the training sessions I have taken, and plan on taking more advantage of these. I see a culture of fairness and respect with how employees are treated, which lets each employee focus on doing what we do best. IDC offers many opportunities for career development. I was lucky enough to be selected for the Mentor Program during my first year of employment. IDC matches you up with someone in a different department, which is a great way to learn about other aspects of the IDC business that you may not be aware of. I was lucky enough to be partnered with a wonderful mentor, and she continues to be a key part of my daily life at IDC, for guidance and as a sounding board for new ideas, even after 10+ years.

Presenting at Directions. It's a lot more than just going up on stage and talking through 15 – 20 slides in 35 minutes. The preparation, rehearsal, and delivery all take on a life of their own the closer we get to Directions, and everything gets magnified 100x when you're on the main stage. I'll say this much though: it's also one of the most thrilling experiences I've had.If you had to describe IDC in three words, which would you choose?
