Cloud Companies Continue to Impress in Canada

IDC Canada Profiles 10 Cloud Companies to Watch

- April 26, 2011 -

IDC has released a new study, IDC Canada Profiles 10 Cloud Companies to Watch. The study features ten emerging companies that are innovating and excelling with a variety of solutions delivered through the cloud, including solutions that address employee referrals, employee-job fit, workforce management, business continuity, application migration, and accounting/financial management to name a few.

Compared to their bulkier packaged software or home-grown counterparts, the cloud based model offers anytime, anywhere availability, affordability, and fast/easy deployment. This disruptive approach to delivering solutions is one that Canada's emerging tech sector has fully embraced.

The IDC study profiles ten relatively small cloud companies in Canada, providing a review of each company's technology and go-to-market strategy, partners, and customers. It concludes with some of the overarching trends IDC is seeing in this market along with insights on how emerging companies can succeed in this space. To qualify for inclusion in this document, companies had to be: privately held, have fewer than or about 100 employees, under C$20 million in revenue, based in Canada, and have not been profiled in IDC Canada's Ten to Watch in the past.

The ten companies featured in the report (in alphabetical order) include:

  • Cloud-based solutions are increasingly being accepted and adopted. It's a good time to be an emerging cloud company in Canada.
  • These emerging companies are smaller, faster, and thriftier compared to their larger counterparts. Large companies will find it difficult to straddle both traditional and cloud offerings and will increasingly look for partner and acquisition opportunities to leverage this expertise.

This study is one of a series of documents that IDC publishes as part of the Canadian Technology Innovation Watch report series, which tracks Canadian ICT companies including software, hardware, services, and communications companies from across Canada. The series examines emerging companies, their solutions, and why they have been successful.
