PRESS RELEASE

IDC Canada Evaluates Mobile and Enterprise Application Testing Providers in Two New IDC MarketScapes

- April 11, 2016 -

International Data Corporation (IDC) Canada announced today the availability of two new IDC MarketScape reports profiling the leading vendors in the closely linked Canadian Enterprise Application Testing, and Mobile Application Testing markets. IDC MarketScape: Canada Mobile Application Testing Providers (IDC# CA40645516), and IDC MarketScape: Canada Enterprise Application Testing Providers (IDC# CA40645416), are the first IDC MarketScape reports covering the Enterprise & Mobile Application Testing market in Canada.

The Application Testing market in Canada has grown rapidly over the last several years as the result of changing application development, support, and maintenance requirements. The development of IDC's MarketScape reports were driven by market demand to understand vendor capabilities, as end-users expand the use of application testing providers in the ever evolving lifecycle of enterprise and mobile enterprise software development.

Through in-depth interviews with providers and feedback from providers' customers, IDC Canada is pleased to report the following results:

IDC MarketScape: Canada Enterprise Application Testing Providers

  • IBM and TCS earned the distinction of placing in the Leaders category.
  • Five vendors were positioned within the Major Players category. They include: CGI, HP, L&T Infotech, Cognizant and Tech Mahindra.
  • The results show that the growing use of automated test tools and solution accelerators are allowing smaller firms to compete effectively against the industry leaders. Successful testing vendors are combining third-party tools with their own IP and assets in test centers of excellence in Canada and around the world to help resolve customer issues.
IDC MarketScape: Canada Mobile Application Testing Providers
  • IBM, TCS, CGI HP, L&T Infotech, Cognizant and Tech Mahindra were positioned in the Major Players Category.
  • The market for mobile application development is still emerging, as a growing number of businesses are mobilizing enterprise applications as well as developing native and hybrid mobile applications. Consequently, mobile application testing and quality assurance services is a growth market for vendors and it will continue to expand based on the evolving requirements of Canadian businesses.

"Enterprise testing services in Canada is one of the fastest growing services markets and, while still emerging, is characterized by robust solutions that reflect the global characteristics and capabilities of the top vendors" says Jim Westcott, research manager, application services. In Canada, enterprise application testing and quality assurance services vendors are engaged in a highly competitive market and differentiation will be based on the completeness of the solution offering and the strength of the customer relationship."

"In comparison, the mobile application testing and quality assurance services market is in a strong growth phase as more Canadian companies are adding mobile applications to their application portfolios to support customers and employees. As mobility becomes more of an integral component to the digital transformation imperative currently underway, testing mobile applications across a variety of devices, operating systems, display types, and mobile application types will become an increasingly important offering."

Collectively, the two reports assess seven enterprise & mobile application testing providers active in the Canadian marketplace. The assessments are designed to evaluate the characteristics of each firm and offers valuable guidance when examining potential solutions providers and planning future strategic investment opportunities.
