Overview

Together with the key stakeholders in the DACH region and internationally networked through IDC Health Insights, we face the most pressing questions of digitization in the health sector.

This has never been more topical than now, when the enormous challenge of the pandemic has sharpened our eyes: long-standing and much-discussed topics suddenly had to be implemented at short notice and effectively put into practice. Proactivity shows, in view of too short-reaching reactive action, as crucial for life. Limitations due to the long-term unchanged framework conditions manifest themselves drastically. A 360 ° view of health, combined with close and efficient cooperation between all parties involved, is increasingly proving to be the only possible future of our health system.

With these contours of the next step in our health system, which are now more clearly perceptible, the task of digitization as a system-determining basis stands out more clearly than ever, even if humanity and human character must always come first: In the future, “real” and “digital” flow seamlessly into each other.

The challenge of a 360 ° vision of health is faced with a complex system of health agents that have historically grown with great diversity and whose coordination is not always easy. The basic idea of the IDC Health Summit is one thing: Key stakeholders in the health care system are looking for solutions together that will make our health system more efficient, resilient and powerful.

In this spirit, IDC has already implemented two successful health summits, internationally oriented, but focused on Austria. But health knows no borders, and this commonality must be lived in the entire region. That is why we are expanding this dialogue between top-class representatives of the healthcare sector in the DACH region in order to jointly demonstrate important learnings, necessary concrete next steps and international best practices against the background of the “COVID-19 crisis”.

Resilient and proactive health management: An opportunity for new approaches through AI and analytics

Herwig Ostermann

Geschäftsführer, Gesundheit Österreich GmbH (GÖG)

For this purpose, the potential contributions of machine learning to analysis and supporting decisions are discussed. Finally system requirements for data quality and availability, as well as system criteria (such as patient participation or decision mechanisms) are derived. The presentation will conclude with an overview of current and possible reference points between machine learning and the current pandemic management. In the end, Mr. Ostermann will give an outlook on future design options that may result from the current dynamics.

The German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has provided an extensive funding program for COVID-19 research in the National Research Network of University Hospitals (NFN). The database should be a uniform nationwide data set. On the basis of extensive preparatory work by the medical societies and the WHO ISARIC protocol, a data set was created that summarizes the most important content and outlines it in the international standards HL7, SNOMED, ICD-10 and LOINC.

The state of digitization of the Swiss physicians: ways and perspectives.

Reinhold Sojer

Abteilungsleiter Digitalisierung / eHealth, Verbindung der Schweizer Ärztinnen und Ärzte

As a part of the eHealth strategy adopted in 2018, the development of digitalisation in Switzerland is to be shaped in favour of the best possible benefit for patients and all actors in the treatment process. The potential of digitalisation in the outpatient healthcare sector in Switzerland is far from being fully utilised. About 70% of outpatient doctors keep their medical records digitally. Admittedly, the Covid 19 pandemic stimulated an additional increase in digitalisation with regard to the provision of telemedical services. However, it became clear that the digital possibilities are not yet sufficiently being utilised in patient treatment. The population increasingly wants digital services, especially in the administrative area, where they simplify processes but no personal interaction is lost. A survey by the Swiss medical association has shown that more and more younger patients can consider an end-to-end digital patient journey. The results of the survey and insights into possible solutions will be presented in the lecture.

2021 IDC Health Awards DACH

The IDC Health Awards were launched in 2018 to recognize and highlight innovative and visionary projects of digital change in the health sector. But not only innovation itself should be recognized: when the IDC Health Award is presented, special attention is paid to ensuring that the solutions are in harmony with the needs of all stakeholders in the diverse health ecosystem. For this reason, the categories are designed to be patient-centered: creating closeness to patients, increasing their health literacy and building and strengthening trust between patients and other stakeholders. In IDC’s view, these approaches are the best way to lead the DACH region to sustainable health excellence.

Awards committee

Our Awards Committee covers the entire health and life science value chain and is made up of well-known system partners from the health systems in the DACH zone and international experts. As a result, the local relevance of the solutions is assessed and international best practices (e.g. from the IDC Health Insights analysts) are used as a benchmark. The IDC Health Awards is a particularly practical award.
