IDC Manufacturing Digital transformation in manufacturing - the path to resilience and sustainability?

Digital Event | November 11, 2021

Overview

Digital transformation is moving the manufacturing industry towards resilience and sustainability.  The challenge manufacturers now face is finding a balance between digitalization and efficiency.

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has taught us that digitalization can not only increase operational efficiency in industrial enterprises, but it can also deliver significant improvements in employee productivity and customer satisfaction, resulting in increased revenue and margins.

Nevertheless, we still live in a physical world. We therefore need to ask where the line should be drawn between a state of 100% digitalization and a fully analogue approach that primarily uses paper documents as its basic tool. In other words: Are the benefits of digitization directly proportional to its complexity, sustainability, and the demands on the development, management, and maintenance of systems?

Finding a balance between the two worlds or approaches is certainly not an easy task for many IT directors and operations managers — which is why we made it the main theme of theIDC Manufacturing Forum 2021. During the exclusive one-day event, we focused on finding a balance between digitalization of operations and achieving real efficiency. Because in terms of practical benefits, they are not synonymous.
