IDC Manufacturing Thriving in the manufacturing industry while facing the unknown

In-Person Event | October 20, 2022

Overview

Manufacturing organizations today and in the future will have to operate in an environment that will continue to be volatile, uncertain, and complex. At the same time, they will have to operate in a digital and sustainable economy.

IDC Insights has designed the PRIME framework to guide the CEO and the entire C-suite of organizations in the manufacturing industry on how to thrive in the future by focusing on the five key elements: Purpose, Resilience, Imagination, Mastery and Ecosystems. The theme for 2022 will therefore be “Thriving in the manufacturing industry with PRIME, while facing the unknown”.

With a vast array of technologies available to enable manufacturing organizations to become a Future Enterprise, this summit provides a platform that encourages a dialogue between manufacturing companies and technology providers and a peer-to-peer exchange for lessons learned.

Digitization / Industry 4.0 in the food industry

Dr. Tamás Farkas J.

Managing Director / CFO and CTO, HUNGRANA

Nowadays, digitization and the changes known as Industry 4.0 are mostly referred to as challenges facing businesses. At Hungrana Kft., we work to ensure that our employees see these technological opportunities that define our future as opportunities and the related development imperative. They should see an opportunity to meet the needs of our competitors and the market in order to gain a real competitive advantage, as a result of which we increase our effectiveness, while creating an attractive and retaining work environment for the "digital native" generations. As the old saying goes: if you can't stop something, do it! We put this on our banner and the achievement of world standards in these areas. This is far from impossible. This is supported by the first results.

Would it really hang by a thread? The OT risk landscape

Péter Hüvelyes

InfoSec Advisor, Euro One

The assessment and proper management of cyber security threats and risks lurking in industrial systems is essential for any company where the activity is based on industrial control systems. The aim is to protect the physical integrity of workers and the general public, and the continuity of business, but in the interaction with business processes it is not easy to decide what to devote our attention and resources to. We present methods and examples of risks found (too) often during our OT risk assessment projects in Europe.

11:26

Adaptive OT Security - Customer success story

Tamás Barna

Security is only as effective as it is adaptive, and this is true of OT system security as well. How is this possible? Listen to our presentation, in which we try to present the challenges and solutions at the same time through the lens of a customer operating in an important manufacturing area, in the form of a case study.

Gábor Monori

Senior Consultant, IDC Hungary

Attila Vincze

Regional IT & HBS Manager, Howmet Aerospace

Dr. Miklós Danyek

Head of Technical Design, MAVIR

International trends here, buzzwords there, for the time being little attention is paid to industrial IT security in Hungary, many people trivialize its importance, consider it an external factor independent of production processes, refer to as "airgap". We invited representatives of an American-based aerospace manufacturing company and a large domestic electrical energy transmission company to the conversation. Attila Vincze, who is responsible for the regional production and business IT support of Howmet Aerospace, and Miklós Danyek Dr., who heads the technical design of MAVIR, will be our guests.

The assembling and manufacturing units want to reach higher output in Hungary. But, there are problems to solve in parallel with the blue-collar workforce shortage.

The current economic situation creates unpredictable challenges for the enterprises such as the almost 30 years old Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company or the Lenovo Hungary Manufacturing founded a year ago. How do they prepare for the hardships while there is a demand to serve multiple shifts efficiently?

We are looking for answers to workforce supply with our HR executive guests from the dimensions of mobility point of view.

The planet fights back - The environmental challenges of the 5th industrial revolution

Katalin Sipos

Director, WWF Hungary

Since the second half of the 18th century, we have experienced amazing technological progress during the first four stages of the industrial revolution, and the prospects for innovation are unforeseeable. However, development had a price, which was paid by natural resources and the environmental condition of the planet - and it is now affecting us. While we are working on high-tech solutions suitable for science fiction, a perplexing question mark has crept in behind the preservation of our biological conditions of existence. How should we think about the development of technologies in order to restore the environmental stability of the planet? Within what resource framework do we need to find solutions? How can technical thinking directly help protect the planet? They will hear a biologist's opinion on all this.

14:03

Smart and sustainable energy and water management

Szilvia Gärtner

Senior Environmental Engineer, Grundfos Manufacturing Hungary

What can a large company do if there is an energy and water crisis and its product is most closely related to these two? It turns a challenge into an opportunity.

GRUNDFOS STRATEGY 2025 is based on this approach. In it, the company's management precisely formulates the goals and objectives that all four business divisions must follow and fulfill.

At the Székesfehérvár site, the construction of a solar park on the 20,000 square meter roof area of one of the factories is currently under construction, with an output of 1.1 MWh providing the basic supply of the site. A vacuum pump wastewater treatment system was put into operation this year, which is able to reduce the amount of oily wastewater currently being transported by 80%, with minimal energy consumption. In addition, our projects include reforestation, a rainwater catchment pool, and a heat pump with CO2 refrigerant.

14:19

Panel Discussion: Industry 5.0, Sustainability & Energy

Péter Bóna

CEO, Owner, Com-Forth

Zoltán Gazsi

Managing Director, Eisberg Hungary

Péter Éliás

Head of Environmental Management, Audi

After the technological focus of Industry 4.0, the 5.0 concept focuses on sustainability and people-centeredness - urging a minor paradigm shift. But how can sustainability be made attractive to domestic factories? What are the fastest-paying investments that, in addition to the companies' own economic interests, also serve sustainability? What about those investments for which no ROI can be calculated, but which are indispensable for the long-term survival of our world? We are looking for answers to these questions together with our expert interlocutors.

Panel Discusson: What is the right answer? Is there a good answer? On the edge of cloud and data center strategies…

Gábor Monori

Senior Consultant, IDC Hungary

Márta Majtényi

Head of Cyber Security Services, Norsk Hydro

Péter Gerner

Senior DC Architect, MOL Group

A decade and a half ago, we entered a new era, which we now only refer to as the "third platform era", and one of the leading elements of which is cloud transformation. We expected a more or less linear process, but we realized that cloud transformation in a large enterprise environment is not completely evident. As a result, new trends and new aspects appeared, which is why IDC organized a dedicated conference in Western Europe in 2018 on the topic of "Back from the cloud", i.e. "cloud repatriation".

A few years ago, we again entered a new era, which this time was not dictated by technology, but by life. Countries closed down, daily routines suddenly stopped or changed, and this reshaped data center strategies again. Finally, the year 2022 came, which brought with it inflation not seen in a long time, while the war to the east of us forced some countries to invest in the cloud, and others to create their own physical environment.

It is difficult to develop a strategy for years and decades to come, but planning is still essential for a large company.

15:07

Connect Discussion: Customer responses and new answers to the energy crisis

Ders Németh

Managing Director, Wattler

Until the middle of 2021, the focus in Europe was on what kind of energy should be used for a sustainable future. Then energy prices started to rise. The crisis peaked in August 2022 (according to our knowledge so far). In Hungary, the relevant discussion took an interesting turn. Where will we get energy from now on? Will there be natural gas in the country or will we have to switch to another energy source? Can the electrical grid withstand the supply from the end-user side due to the "boom" of small household power plants? How can users cover their energy costs? Why has the market completely changed? How can skyrocketing costs be reduced, or the price increase offset, if at all possible?

Ders Németh – natural gas trader and energy expert – shares his thoughts on energy markets, energy efficiency, and the options for the flexible energy use of the corporate segment. Then, we turn to the participants of these forums. We talk with the representatives of medium and large businesses about energy consumption planning, price and cost forecasting, usage profile, and data centre energy demand.
