IDC Banking & Finance Congress

The Future of the Fittest: Revamp, Rebuild, and Reinvest

Hilton Al Habtoor City, Dubai, June 28, 2022

Overview

In 2022, we are going further, together. The Middle East financial services industry will not only see the acceleration of recovery, but also the chance to go further than what we could have possibly imagined in our universe.

The many lessons learned from previous crises have helped point the financial services industry to the most likely outcomes out of the current scenario. Experience obviously helps.

At the onset of 2022, banks, insurance, and capital market firms are already racing – and racing fervently – to plug the gaps exposed by a growing credit risk event, capitalizing on opportunities that are emerging from hyper-transacting and hyper-digital customers and reshaping their business models to ensure they are agile enough to respond to these challenging times.

Today’s financial services institutions find themselves playing a complex game of chess; they must reconfigure their strategies, re-examine their priorities, and outthink their opponents in order to win.

Join a selected group of business leaders from the Banking and Finance industry as they come together to network and learn from IDCs analysts and inspiring speakers from across the GCC region (UAE, KSA, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait) and exchange best practices for a brighter digital future.

IDC Keynote: The Roadmap for the Future of Financial Services: Platforms of Innovation

George Briford

Associate Research Director for Financial Insights, IDC

This year represents a turning point for banks and insurers as they strive to stay ahead of the competition and remain relevant in an increasingly digital financial services world. There is another even more interesting dynamic too – the emergence of fintechs and insurtechs: companies that promise to be more agile and more customer centric than the market's traditional incumbents. But both parties have to collaborate – and in this new age of collaboration, the industry will rely on platforms that are underpinned by technologies like cloud and open source. Platforms will be the way that new value and new revenues can be generated by all.

Beyond the Branch: Anywhere Workspace Solutions for Financial Services

Stevan Jovanovic

Senior Manager of Digital Workspace Solutions, VMware
The pandemic accelerated the change in how we work and highlighted the importance of a distributed work model as a business continuity strategy. However, many financial services companies realized they were not readily equipped to satisfy the employee experience and deliver the security required to protect the newly expanded perimeter resulting from a distributed workforce. This session reveals why organizations aiming to support a modern, distributed workforce must prioritize the experiences of their employees while building more secure, resilient, and competitive environments that allow workers to conduct business more efficiently and meet customers wherever they are.

Lifestyle Banking: The Shift from Traditional Banking Services

Cyrus Daruwala

Managing Director, IDC Financial Insights Asia/Pacific

The macro challenges in banking are significant. The number of banks in the U.S. is down 66% since 2000, with the formation of new charters remaining at historic lows. Competition is fierce, and challenges include the war on talent, the need for hyper-efficient operations, and increased regulatory obligations. However, the window for decisive action is closing soon. This session will discuss three major imperatives driving the need for change: running operations on more potent fuel (e.g., although 61% of financial executives say cost optimization is a priority, 80% expect their technology spend to increase); the technology trap (e.g., maturing from pockets of greatness to go from platforms to solution sets); and marketing with a brand purpose (e.g., humanizing experiences to boost customer retention).

The new wave of digital transformation (DX) is expected to usher in major changes, especially as the industry prepares to move on from the shock of the pandemic, this time accelerating DX in corporate banking.

Corporates are increasingly relying upon their bankers to help them with their working capital contingencies while supporting them in seizing emerging opportunities. Under these circumstances, banks have a unique opportunity to respond to the corporates' growing need for real-time information flow, financial advice, and funding support.

The increasingly competitive financial technology landscape with the proliferation of APIs via open banking by the corporate sector is presenting both opportunities and challenges for banks. Banks in the region must act quickly to digitalize corporate banking with propositions that also serve the corporate treasurer.
