Abstract

This IDC study provides healthcare executives with a road map for the next 36 months that prioritizes investments and identifies the areas of the business that will be affected and the relative complexity and cost of each initiatives. Each of the 10 decision imperatives provides the IT impact and guidance for action.

The drivers of healthcare IT are global in nature and include a couple of themes including the economy, which globally has been slow to recover, and the unsustainable cost of healthcare delivery. The availability of 3rd Platform technology as well as the ubiquitous access to mobile technology and the critical nature of security will drive business transformation. The demand by consumers for convenient access to healthcare as well as an experience equivalent to those experienced in other industries will drive healthcare organizations to rethink their customer experience and make technology investments to support new strategies.

The 10 decision imperatives identified by IDC Health Insights clearly show that transformation is beyond technology and impacts data, people, processes, and strategy. The decision imperatives cover organizational changes, staffing requirements, and consumer-facing initiatives.

"The FutureScape will become critical for successful planning and budgeting across the healthcare ecosystem," says Scott Lundstrom, general manager and group VP, IDC Health Insights.
