Authors: Heather Ashton, Simon Ellis, Jeffrey Hojlo, Christopher Holmes, Kimberly Knickle, Robert Parker, Marc Van Herreweghe, Lorenzo Veronesi
Abstract

This IDC study presents the top 10 decision imperatives for the manufacturing industry. Each decision imperative is shaped by a common set of key drivers that provides a planning tool for technology leaders and their line-of-business counterparts to use in their IT strategic planning efforts.

According to Kimberly Knickle, program director, IDC Manufacturing Insights, "Manufacturers are in the process of developing a road map and making investments in technologies that can help them achieve profitable growth, adapt to continuous change, become more customer centric, and improve enterprise quality. We believe they can accomplish this in the way they leverage investments in technology — information technology, operations technology, and communications technology. The most advanced manufacturers are able to embed 3rd Platform technologies into the way they do business and to essentially become technology companies as they operate as manufacturers."
