IT Strategy and Innovation: Becoming a Leader in Digital Transformation Strategy

Abstract

This IDC study uses the results of two sentiment surveys conducted with CIOs and LOB leaders worldwide to examine the perception of IT, how IT can better drive innovation and, in doing so, change the perception and role of IT from an operational player to a strategic partner.

Today's business leaders are challenged by digital business transformation in which their enterprises must employ digital technologies coupled with organizational, operational, and business model innovation to create new ways to operate and grow. Given the dependence on both technology and information required for a successful transformation, the CIO should play an important role. However, these surveys highlight a gap between what CIOs and their business partners perceive. More important, there is a significant gap between what CIOs are currently focused on and what they could be doing to drive the digital transformation within their organizations. The conclusions drawn from this data will enable CIOs and IT executives to take steps to transition themselves and their organizations to become key partners and enablers in their organization's digital transformation.
