Abstract

This IDC study provides IDC's top 10 predictions for the 2016 IT buyer when it comes to understanding and investing in their own datacenter facilities and staff as well as datacenter facilities offered by third-party service and network providers. These predictions provide the strategic context to enable enterprises to consider the overall impact of developments such as the digitalization of the economy cloud, shifts in populations and business activities, software-defined compute, and cloud storage.

"The world of IT and the datacenter is in the midst of a massive structural shift, with datacenters becoming the most concentrated source of on-demand compute and storage capacity as well as the largest repositories of data. Which companies will have the insight, capital, and commitment to design, build, and operate such datacenters? CIO and IT executive clients must ask hard questions about whether they want to own/operate datacenters at all and, if not, how to best manage timing of the transition." — Richard Villars, vice president, Datacenter & Cloud
