Abstract

This IDC Market Perspective provides an examination and overview of near-data processing (NDP) technology highlighted at IBM's regional event held at Raffles City Convention Centre on July 25, 2017 and Lenovo's Innovation Summit in Singapore on August 3, 2017. NDP plays an increasingly important role in cognitive and artificial intelligence (AI) systems in which computing power and Big Data processing are in high demand. "The power of cognitive/AI system relies mostly on data, and data are best utilized when amassed in its raw form — whether it is in cloud, on premise, datacenters, boxes, or edge devices," says Jessie Danqing Cai, senior research manager for Big Data and Analytics and Cognitive/AI Computing Practice, IDC Asia/Pacific.
