Telstra: Thriving in the Land of the Digitalised Carrier

Authors: Hugh Ujhazy, Sandra Ng, Courtney Munroe
Abstract

Telstra has evolved its DX journey to fundamentally overhaul its operating model. Recognising the opportunities associated with broadening Telstra's value proposition to both domestic Australian as well as regional and global customers, Telstra has mapped out a four-year journey to deliver enhanced network capabilities, growth in its cloud service capability, and a total transformation in both its operational and customer-facing endeavours. Telstra's focus on streamlining its product portfolio globally signals a team prepared to confront the future head on.

With an investment of A$2–3 billion over the next five years, Telstra's four-pronged transformation journey is accompanied by streamlining of the product organisation, digitalisation of the organisation, and cost savings arising from the retirement of legacy products and improvements in the customer engagement process.

This IDC Insight provides IDC's view of critical factors that the transformation of Telstra will face in its journey from telco to "tech co."
