This IDC Presentation provides a regional analysis of the results of IDC's 2016 Global IoT Decision Maker Survey, which was conducted in July 2016 and includes 2,158 respondents from more than 9 countries in the Asia/Pacific region, out of which 196 respondents are from the government vertical. The survey covered a broad category of topics related to enterprise Internet of Things (IoT) deployments, including levels of familiarity with IoT, views about IoT's importance to organizations, deployment plans and use cases, budgets, adoption drivers and inhibitors, perceptions of vendors in the market, and vendor selection criteria.
"As the IoT ecosystem continues to mature across the globe, a number of regional differences in IoT deployment plans, IoT use cases, and perceptions of IoT vendors are emerging for enterprises that have deployed an IoT solution or plan to do so in the next few years. Although overall awareness of IoT among enterprises is generally high across countries in Asia/Pacific, not all countries are uniform in their approach to implementing an IoT solution or in their views of the leading vendors in the market," says Gerald Wang, Head of IDC Government and Education Insights, Asia/Pacific.
"Government agencies across AP are considering leveraging IoT solutions to deliver quality services in this increasingly complex environment. The public sector in some countries is also mulling certain options to apply IoT in its processes with an aim to find new value for citizens in the form of enhancing existing capabilities, streamlining current processes, and engaging with partners. Nearly half of the enterprises in the AP region have planned to deploy an IoT solution between 12 and 24 months from now and are planning to extend to other sensors or products, whereas 40% of the organizations plan to launch an IoT solution in the next 12 months," says Shreyashi Pal, Market Analyst, IDC Government and Education Insights, Asia/Pacific.
