By: Arpita MitraSenior Research Manager

Abstract

This IDC Perspective document presents an overview of how wearable technologies can help insurance companies build valued-based health insurance solutions through the example of ManulifeMOVE, a campaign launched by Manulife in Hong Kong. Reward-based health protection has yielded positive response from customers who are continuously encouraged to participate in fitness activities for better score and reward points. Wearable technologies can help insurance companies not only in adopting risk mitigation and preventive measures but also in opening up new platforms for improved communication between the customer and the insurer. With the continuous streaming of data, the insurer can better understand its customers' propensity to health risks and provide event-based recommendation to prevent critical health conditions.
