The Myths and Realities of SD-WAN

By: Nikhil BatraSenior Research Manager, Bernard Loke

Abstract

As the enterprise adoption of 3rd Platform technologies such as cloud increases, enterprise legacy networks are put under great strain. Legacy WAN products struggle to keep up with evolving workloads and the ever-increasing demand for bandwidth. SD-WAN's software-defined approach to networking brings new flexibility and control to a network that was once static and inflexible. SD-WAN can be deployed on top of existing network infrastructure or might come bundled with the network underlay.

"With each approach having its own pros and cons, the messaging around what an SD-WAN solution is and its true benefits and capabilities can often be confusing. Organizations must carefully evaluate these solutions and understand its benefits and implications before committing to their network transformation journey," says Nikhil Batra, senior research manager, Communications Service Provider Practice.
