Emergence of SME Internet of Things Integration/Solution Providers in Northeast Asia

By: Bill RojasAdjunct Research Director, IDC Asia/Pacific, Shaily ShahResearch Manager, Hugh UjhazyVice President, IoT and Telecommunications

Abstract

Small and medium-sized enterprise Internet of Things integration/providers have reached over 2,000 in the PRC alone, and there is also a lot of activity in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. Some of the companies studied have already listed on stock exchanges in local markets, including over the counter, but in almost all cases, the seed money, Series A and B, is coming from local venture capitals and strategic investors. IDC believes that the sheer numbers and breadth of solutions and use cases covered by these companies lay the foundation for a robust localized ecosystem that over time will expand overseas as the opportunities arise, especially in smart home, agriculture, and transportation and energy verticals.
