This IDC Presentation is part of IDC New Zealand's 3rd Platform Heatmap series. The analysis is based on data gathered from IDC's 2018 IT Services Survey. It examines factors and trends shaping the New Zealand IT services market. The report provides insights related to current managed IT services and planned managed IT services by New Zealand organisations.
Key findings of the presentation reveal that customer prioritisation is at the heart of initiatives that are being considered for implementation. Strong governance was found to be essential for organisations looking to achieve their digital strategies, as was the ability to act on data in real time. Another core theme of the report was how important security is considered by organisations; security was found to be the top operations and infrastructure capability organisations wish to improve.
Threat management and incident response services present an opportunity for managed security vendors to attempt to win new business, as many organisations are actively seeking to engage with a different provider to implement these services. Chayse Gorton, market analyst for IT Services and Blockchain at IDC Asia/Pacific, recommends "managed security providers to focus on advocating how much orchestration and automation features are in-built into their core security platforms, as this is the top criteria that organisations consider when selecting a managed security provider."
IDC believes many organisations will actively compare their current managed IT services offerings, including security, against multiple providers; hence, we can expect that competition to attract and attain customers will only intensify in the short term.
