Smart Cities Internet of Things Use Case Analysis: Smart Parking Solutions

By: Shaily ShahResearch Manager, Gerald WangHead, Asia Pacific Public Sector

Abstract

A smart parking solution is a mesh of offerings that includes platforms, sensors, camera algorithms, gateways, and cloud processing. Its interface provides parking space availability and mobile payment information to customers while also playing an administrative role in generating insights for parking vendors and a real time feed for city management.

"In many countries in APEJ, smart parking services with sensors, video, and radar have been rolled out that help determine parking occupancy and enable mobile payments," says Shaily Shah, Research Manager, Internet of Things, IDC Asia/Pacific. "However, the next level of innovation will come in the form of citywide implementations of integrated parking solutions that include analytics for real-time congestion monitoring and parking space turnover, among other such metrics," she adds.
