Abstract

This IDC telecom Internet of Things (IoT) readiness index study offers a deep dive into countries in Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) (APEJ) with respect to their preparedness for telco IoT solutions. The index is a comprehensive combination of technical metrics (such as IT and IoT spends), economic criteria (gross domestic product and ease of doing business), and specific telecom parameters (data connectivity, value-added services revenues, machine-to-machine spending, mobile broadband consumption, and so forth). This research offers a perspective on the adoption of IoT solutions across the region for telecom field services management, data management and analytics, and telecom basestation remote monitoring, among others.

"Internet of Things has the potential to automate and optimize many telco processes to improve customer experience, build loyalty, and increase mobile services consumption," says Shaily Shah, research manager, Internet of Things, IDC Asia/Pacific. "In the APEJ region, with trends such as 5G use case trials, LPWAN rollouts, and varied maturity of telecom infrastructure, intelligent IoT solutions have an interesting landscape to foray," she adds.
