Cloud Adoption Trends in Manufacturing

By: William LeeResearch Director

On-line Presentation

Abstract

This IDC Presentation presents the results from IDC's 2018 CloudView survey involving 446 respondents from the manufacturing industry segment across 12 countries in Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) (APEJ). The study focuses on manufacturing's adoption of cloud services, end-user attitudes toward cloud services, and drivers and inhibitors for the adoption of cloud services in APEJ.

The results show manufacturers in the region have very high intent for cloud adoption, with private cloud infrastructure being preferred over public cloud. Software as a service (SaaS) is driving public cloud adoption as manufacturers begin to move more of their workloads to the cloud for global expansion and supply chain integration and collaboration. Platform as a service (PaaS) is the key adoption driver for manufacturers to develop and test their own software and database application on the public cloud platform running on private cloud infrastructure. IT security and governance are key inhibitors for cloud adoption. Manufacturers believe the responsibility for securing cloud services is shared.
