On-line Presentation

Abstract

Smartphone brands from China have become a force to be reckoned with in the global smartphone market, with some establishing themselves as top smartphone companies globally. These players have followed a mixed approach in how they set out to conquer global markets with their own unique strengths, and as such, their challenges also vary. From being known to make handsets for telcos and other mobile players, to causing various players to be driven out of the market — not to mention challenging Samsung and Apple for the top positions in the smartphone market — Chinese players have come a long way. In this study carried out by Kiranjeet Kaur and Simon Baker, the mobile phone market research leads in Asia/Pacific and the Central and Eastern Europe and Middle East and Africa (CEMA), respectively, IDC spells out the market positions of the key brands, and analyzes why some are doing well while others flounder, and looks ahead to what prospects they have as competition intensifies and the industry looks to another transformation with the impending arrival of 5G networks.
