Asia/Pacific (Excluding Japan) Nations and the Internet of Things: An Update on Comparative Assessment

By: Shaily ShahResearch Manager, Hugh UjhazyVice President, IoT and Telecommunications, Ravikant SharmaSenior Research Manager, Asia/Pacific Insights Consulting Group

Abstract

This Market Perspective is an update on the country IoT readiness index study that we ran on 13 Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) countries in 2017. It captures the methodology and differences in results over the last couple of years based on government-led agendas, technological advancements, and changes in overall business environment that may have contributed to dynamic ranking changes.

"Singapore has displaced South Korea as the most IoT-ready country in APEJ. South Korea has slipped four spots to #5 in the overall ranking due to issues of privacy, regulations, and costs," says Shaily Shah, Research Manager, Internet of Things, IDC Asia/Pacific. "Although most of the other nations rankings remained unchanged, a better economic environment and stronger thrust of IoT investments have resulted in Malaysia rising up a couple of positions to #8 in this year's iteration."
